A meta title is the key tool that search engines use to quickly ascertain the content that you create and determine where it should go within the search engines themselves.
Content marketing is more than just creating excellent content. If you make that content visible to search engines, an entire audience of potential prospects will access your site and brand.
Meta information is how you accomplish this. Specifically, it helps with search engine optimization (SEO), which means greater visibility and thus more views to your webpage. The meta title is a crucial component of this success.
What is a meta title?
The meta title is the information that will show up in the very first line of your search results. It’s very important because it’s the first thing that visitors read about your content before continuing to your site. If your title doesn’t immediately grab the reader’s attention, they will move on to other search results. So, it’s crucial that the title is crisp, to the point and exciting.
For example, say I write an article about gold bars. My title is The Best Gold Bars With the Lowest Premium. I can also use that title as the meta title for the article.
What is the advantage of having a meta title?
If you’ve covered those areas within the meta title itself, you will have success. Success is measured based on the click rate from the impression to the click.
For example, 1,000 people search for gold bars, and your content appears in the search engine results. If 100 of those people click on your list, that is a 10% click-through rate.
If your click-through rate is higher than normal, the search engines will view your content as more relevant to the search phrase that was entered. And if they see that it’s more relevant, they’ll move your natural listing further up in the search results. Ultimately, the most relevant response appears in the top position.
As you move up in the results, the number of visitors that click on your ad and continue to your site will go up dramatically. For example, a search engine result that’s the first listing on the first page will have an almost 23% click-through rate, while that same content in the 10th position will have a much lower one.
The difference between the first position and 10th position can mean up to 10 times more traffic and visitors to your website. That’s driven by a meta title and the meta description that you write.
In summary
It isn’t enough to create excellent content for your website. You also need to write an effective meta title that relates to your content. If you do that, your SEO program will be more successful and you will attract many more visitors to your website. And those visitors could ultimately become buyers.
